Apprentice Meat Cutter. If, in the opinion of management (management means higher management than the Head Meat Cutter) an apprentice is fully qualified to perform the duties of a Journeyman Meat Cutter prior to three (3) years of service with a minimum of six thousand two hundred forty (6,240) hours of actual work experience on the job, the Employer may advance such apprentice to the duties and pay of a Journeyman Meat Cutter. When apprentices have worked three (3) years, and the equivalent hours as set forth above, they automatically become Journeymen and shall be paid as such. During an apprentice's three (3) year training period, he shall be assigned from time to time to all jobs normally done in the particular market. One (1) apprentice shall be allowed to every two (2) Journeymen or a fraction thereof in each market, and one (1) additional apprentice to every two (2) additional Journeymen in said market. This limitation on apprentices may be relaxed during emergency periods when the Union is unable to furnish qualified Journeymen to the Employer.
Apprentice Meat Cutter. An Apprentice Meat Cutter is an employee who is in training to learn all of the necessary skills and duties of a Journeyman Meat Cutter. It shall be tho responsibility of the Employer to provide a Apprentice with training so that he will have the opportunity to acquire the necessary experience and skill during the apprenticeship period specified in Article VI, Section 5.

Apprentice Meat Cutter. (a) An Apprentice Meat Cutter must be eighteen (18) years of age or older, learning all details and developing skills for performing the duties of a Journeyman Meat Cutter. The Company agrees to assign each Apprentice Meat Cutter to various jobs in order to give him the opportunity to qualify as a Journeyman Meat Cutter at the end of his apprenticeship period. In cases where the Union and the Company mutually agree that the Apprentice cannot qualify to become a Journeyman Meat Cutter at the end of his two (2) year training period, they may agree to extend him an additional six (6) months period of training and this extra time of training shall be paid for at the top apprenticeship bracket.

To use an Apprentice Meat Cutter, the market must employ at least one (1) full-time Journeyman Meat Cutter other than the Head Meat Cutter. An additional Apprentice Meat Cutter may be used in each market for every additional full-time Journeymen Meat Cutter working in the market. No Apprentice Meat Cutter shall be employed in the self-service department or markets as a Wrapper or Packager for more than forty percent (40%) of his weekly hours worked.
