ADOPTIVE. PARENT, CHILD CARE, MATERNITY/PATERNITY LEAVE OF ABSENCE: The Board shall grant a staff member who has at least thirty (30) accumulated Sick Leave days an adoptive, parent, child care and/or maternity/paternity leave of absence, with pay, utilizing sick leave, for thirty (30) working days upon proper certification.

ADOPTIVE. Guardian parents may access leave on the same terms as available under the Maternity Leave provisions at clause 46.2 and Paternity Leave provisions at clause 46.4.

Maternity Leave without pay of less than thirty (30) calendar days will not count for service for the purposes of the Long Service Leave Act unless the CEO approves otherwise.
ADOPTIVE. Adoptive leave may be granted for up to a period of one (1) year. Upon initial application for the adoption, the teacher shall notify the Director of Human Resources in writing of such intent. The period of leave shall commence when the child is entrusted to the teacher-parent. The intent of this leave is to allow the teacher-parent an opportunity to afford the adopted child full-time parental care, where there is no parent or adoptive parent readily available to give such full-time parental care. A teacher applying for, or on, adoptive leave, must inform the Board of any intent to engage in gainful employment, attend institutions of higher learning, or be absent from his/her regular residence for more than a period of one (1) month and obtain specific approval for such activities, if intended to be engaged in, to be granted, or to continue on, adoptive leave.

  • Adoptive Leave A leave of absence of up to one (1) year shall be granted by the Board for adoptive purposes. A maximum of five (5) days with pay shall be provided for such leave. The remainder of the leave shall be without pay, except the teacher may elect to have an additional fifteen (15) days of the leave with pay provided the teacher authorizes the deduction of the additional fifteen (15) paid days from the teacher’s accumulated illness leave. Adoptive leave cannot be taken in conjunction with teaching summer school or intersession.
