Actuators. AOCS software controls the following 2 actuators via sending specific control commands: • Reaction Wheel (RW) – is a rotating wheel that is used to apply a torque to the satellite. This is achieved by accelerating or breaking the wheel. This actuator can be either On or Off. • Thruster (THR) – is a position actuator which is by emitting gas jets used to force the satellite to change its position and its orbit. THR can be either On or Off.
Actuators. Pneumatic actuators include spring-loaded diaphragms, springless diaphragms, and cylinder actuators. Actuators for electronic control systems are the pneumatic type using electropneumatic transducers. Actuators will generally be sized to stroke the valve when the maximum pressure drop is equal to:
a. The normal inlet pressure assuming zero down stream pressure.
b. The pump shutoff pressure at normal suction pressure.
c. Relieving set pressure plus normal pump differential pressure if a pumped system.
d. Relieving set pressure of a column or vessel that needs to be blocked in against a relieving condition.
