12-Hour Shift. For employees who are scheduled to work a 12-hour shift plan, overtime work shall be defined as all authorized work in excess of 80 hours in a 14 day work period, as provided by Section 207(k) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Time worked beyond the official 80 hour, 14 day period shall not be considered overtime unless it has been specifically ordered or authorized by the Sheriff or his/her designee. In sudden emergency situations when prior authorization for overtime is not possible, the approval of the Sheriff or his/her designee shall be sufficient.
12-Hour Shift. In cases of a twelve (12) hour shift for Corrections Officer and Control Room Operator, the Employer may alter the work week in accordance with Section 207(k) of the FLSA for security personnel of corrections institutions. Hours worked in excess of twelve (12) hours (or eight hours as applicable) per shift or 160 hours in a 28 day work period, shall be compensated at one and one half times the employee’s regular straight time hourly rate. The 28 day work period shall consist of fourteen (14) scheduled work days and fourteen (14) scheduled days off. Of the fourteen (14) scheduled work days, two (2) scheduled work days shall consist of eight (8) hours. Hours worked on a regularly scheduled day off will be paid at one and one half times the employee’s regular straight time hourly rate if such hours exceed 160 actual hours worked in a 28 day period. The Sheriff shall provide a minimum of eight (8) consecutive hours off between shifts. The working of a twelve (12) hour work schedule shall not increase the accrual of any category of leave time.
12-Hour Shift. This Article covers Maintenance Personnel who are working a twelve (12) hour shift. Except where otherwise stated in this Article, all provisions of the Collective Agreement shall apply to employees on the twelve (12) hour shift. Hours of work shall be: 8:00 am - 8:00 pm 8:00 pm - 8:00 am but in no case shall the normal hours of work exceed twelve (12) hours in one day. Employees covered by this Article shall be eligible for overtime on a regularly scheduled working day after twelve (12) hours of work at time and one-half (1 ½ x). An employee who is required to work on a day of rest is entitled to compensation at double time (2x) for all time worked. Sick leave shall accumulate in accordance with Article 21 of this Agreement. Where an employee covered by this Article is absent because of illness, they shall have their accumulated sick leave credits reduced by 1.5 days for each twelve (12) hour day of sick leave they are granted. An employee who works a 12 hour shift where half or more of the hours are worked between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am, shall receive shift premium in accordance with the following formula:
