INTEGRATED AND SUSTAINABLE RURAL DEVELOPMENT (ISRD) STRATEGY (2000. The South African Government, in consultation with a wide range of key stakeholders launched a new stage of concerted effort to improve opportunities and well‐being for the rural poor. The ISRD Strategy is designed to realize a vision that will attain socially cohesive and stable rural communities with viable institutions, sustainable economies and universal access to social amenities, able to attract and retain skilled and knowledgeable people, who equipped to contribute to growth and development. To fulfil the ISRDS’ vision complementary measures are necessary including in particular:  Human resource development and capacity building  Land reform: implement revised programme  Community based income generation projects including the formation of co‐operatives such as savings and credit co‐operatives (SACCOs)  Social assistance and safety‐nets  Rural Finance
