Velanidia definition
Velanidia means the Oak tree. It makes this type of acorn; this is the fruit and it is edible. The Greek people and people around the Mediterranean have been eating it for 10,000 years. It is a fantastic food, it is gluten free, it is a superfood, full of protein, full of vitamin and it tastes good. On nearby Naxos they sell this in shops. In Filoti village you can go –and this is the season- and there are special trees they know they are especially sweet. It tastes like chestnut. So it is a valuable tree also because of that.
