Vanity definition

Vanity pressbooks and articles published in “predatory” journals may not be used to satisfy requirements for tenure or promotion. Predatory journals typically are open access, charge a publication fee, span numerous disciplines without any recognized focus, and have no clear connection with recognized professional associations. Publication fees, agreements that authors will be responsible for a minimum number of sales, and lack of connection to a university or recognized academic publisher are possible indicators of a vanity press.
