Umbrella research project definition

Umbrella research project means a broad research project under which several smaller research projects fall. Typically, an umbrella research project is one in which a number of individual researchers collaborate to realise at least one objective of the umbrella research project. It is required that the individual Masters and Doctoral students submit independent ethics applications for their parts of the umbrella project. An umbrella research project is advised for groups of researchers undertaking small research projects. In this case, individual researchers are not required to submit independent ethics applications for as long as the data collection procedures and instruments are significantly similar.
