UJ means the University of Johannesburg, a higher education institution, as set out in the Higher Education Act (Act 101 of 1997, as amended. The primary principles that shall govern the MoU are as follows: Each party recognises and respects the independence, governance structures and internal processes of the other. Communications amongst the Parties shall be responded to efficiently and timeously and shall take place in the context of seeking ways to cooperate and complement each party’s functions in terms of the MoU. Neither party shall have the power to enter into any agreement/s or to otherwise bind itself or incur liability on behalf of the other party. The Parties wish to record that this MoU does not constitute a legal agreement between them. The MoU reflects a desire on the part of the Parties to collaborate, in future, in the areas outlined in this memorandum. This MoU does not constitute or afford any party enforceable rights in law against the other. The Parties shall enter into decisions in respect of this MoU on a consensus basis. The intention of this MoU is to commence a strategic partnership between the Parties, after entering into this agreement, the Parties will enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) if and when PSETA allocates to the UJ a discretionary grant, which is enforceable in law. The areas of cooperation and collaboration between the Parties shall include the following: Identification of priority research areas, collaborating and conducting research to support the Public Service, in line with the PSETA Sector Skills Plan (SSP) and PSETA Research Agenda; Facilitation, cooperation and support on the development of capacity and capabilities for members and officials of the Public Service, aligned to the PSETA list of priority skills and SSP priorities; Facilitation and regular sharing of information on matters mutually relevant to the Parties; E...
