Transition Lanes definition
Transition Lanes. These lanes are not required based on traffic operations but are added due to geometric/design constraints that do not allow the dropping of lanes. Such constraints include, but are not limited to, inadequate distance between exit and entrance ramps, lane balance, and basic number of lanes guidance from AASHTO.
