More Definitions of Stable Value

Stable Value is a fund designed to preserve capital while providing steady, positive returns. Stable value funds are invested in wrap or investment contracts issued by insurance companies or banks, which are in turn backed by one or more high quality, diversified fixed income portfolios. The fixed income portfolios provide investment returns, while the wrap or investment contracts are designed to protect against interest rate volatility by providing for the payment of plan-related withdrawals at book value (cost plus accrued interest). These contracts also provide for periodic interest crediting rates that are used to post interest earnings to Account Owner Accounts daily. The provision for making plan-related withdrawals at book value enables the stable value fund to be accounted for daily at its book value and to post interest returns to its Account Owners.
