SITES When a Special Day Class located on an Alternative Education School site exceeds the SELPA standards by 10% ADA for ten (10) consecutive school days, the Unit Member, Association representative and immediate supervisor shall meet to discuss remedies for the situation.
Secondary Special Day Class teachers, with the exception of specialized classrooms including such classes as severe and behavior as determined by the District, shall be provided a testing/consultation period in addition to the preparation period for the purpose of standardized testing, staff consultation, IEP preparation, IEP meetings, and other related activities.
A Special Day Class exists when there are students who receive special education instruction greater than 50% of their school day.
A Full Inclusion Planning Team consisting of the principal, school psychologist, resource specialist or Special Day Class teacher, other support staff, and the general education teacher(s) with identified full inclusion pupils shall be organized at each site with identified full inclusion pupils.
Special Day Class students, when an instructional aide is also present, shall not be counted in the CSM.
Substitutes for aides will be provided in the following order: Inclusion, Special Day Class, and RSP.
Special Education, Special Day Class, Full Inclusion and other mainstreamed students shall be equitably placed in classrooms.
The parties agree that Special Day Class students who are integrated into regular education class, "mainstreamed", are placed in those classes based upon their IEPs. These students should be counted in the unit member- student ratio for class-loading purposes.
In the case of Special Day Class and Full Inclusion students, there will be a maximum of three (3) students per class.
In determining the appropriate class size for a Special Day Class, the District shall consider the following criteria: • Range and severity of disabilities/handicaps; • Student’s age and behavioral variables; • Extent of need for individual instruction; • Amount of time student is enrolled in special classes and/or participates in regular classrooms; and • Current class size.
