source zone definition

source zone means the bidding zone a LTTR goes from. With a LTTR from bidding zone A to bidding zone B, bidding zone A is the source zone;
source zone means the portion of the site that contributes contaminant mass to the ground water plume. The source area is usually the location of the original release. The source zone may be defined as several distinct zones or layers. In practice, it includes the free product layer (for petroleum, the free product is commonly located at the ground water interface), contaminated soil in unsaturated and unsaturated zones, the smear zone, and the dissolved phase. For detailed methods for estimating contaminant mass in the source zone, please refer to Appendix D of this guidance.
