Sounding natural in English here means the overall fluency in writing achieved by avoiding unusual word choices, faulty grammar, unexpected sentence building, or even extraneous terminology in a given field. In addition, considering the academic discourse, this naturalness would refer to the adopted rhetoric of a given field (later, we will see that participants unintentionally seem to associate this feature with native-speakerism – Holliday, 2006).
