Soil scarification definition
Soil scarification. In areas close to (within 1 chain) residual standing birch and spruce, scarify the ground to expose mineral soil. On average, a soil disturbance of at least 3 to 4 inches is desired. Scarify the area to provide for an adequate seed bed or planting spots. Treatment should mix organic and mineral soil and expose some mineral soil. Organic topsoil must not be scraped off the site or displaced any great distance.
