Shingetsu. , which means the Crescent, also gives an indication that he became.Muslim. After the expiry of the contract for two years, Torajiro Yamada came back to Japan for a time, but left for Turkey once again after a year. He became. engaged in trade between Japan and Turkey and devoted' himself to the cultural as well as economic exchanges between the two countries. During World War I, he again returned to Japan. All together he stayed in Turkey for nearly twenty years and played a big role in strengthening friendship between the two .countries. Among his achievements was the construction of the "ERTUGRUL Shipwreck Memorial Monument" and his service continued until his death in 1957 at the age of 91.
