Shift Selection definition

Shift Selection. On or before November 1 of each year, the Village shall post all base shifts for members of this bargaining unit, for the following year. Employees shall be able to use their seniority as defined in Section 17.01 to select a base shift of their preference. In the event a base shift becomes vacant during the year, the Village shall consider seniority in filling that vacancy, but shall also consider disruption to the department and service to the village. It is understood that when an employee exercises seniority to change shifts, off day groupings under Section 6.01 may be impacted. The Department retains the right to adjust the base schedule and off day groupings of affected employees to accommodate such shift changes during the transition. In addition to changes from the base schedule authorized elsewhere under this Agreement, the Village retains the right to deviate from the base schedule to accommodate assignment to special investigations(e.g. background checks, or unique criminal cases), training of employees during their probationary period, remedial training or supervision of non-probationary employees (not to exceed 60 consecutive calendar days in a 12-month period) vacations, or other time off requests of employees.
