Secure Training Centres definition

Secure Training Centres and "STCs" means secure training centres (STCs) which are purpose-built centres for young offenders up to the age of 17. They are run by private operators under contracts, which set out detailed operational requirements. As at the Commencement Date there are four STCs in England; STCs house vulnerable young people who are sentenced to custody or remanded to secure accommodation. They provide a secure environment where they can be educated and rehabilitated. They differ from young offender institutions (YOIs) in that they have a higher staff to young offender ratio and are smaller in size, which means that individuals' needs can be met more easily;

Examples of Secure Training Centres in a sentence

  • Where the custodial element of the DTO is concerned this version of the National Specification applies only to YOIs. The YJB intends to extend its remit to Local Authority Secure Units and Secure Training Centres following appropriate consultation and adaptation.

  • All children subject to YDA, placed in Young Offenders Institutions, Secure Training Centres and Secure Children's Homes, will become an open case to LCYJS and will be allocated a CYJS Social Worker.

  • Governors of Young Offender Institutions, Governors or Directors of Secure Training Centres, Registered Managers of Secure Children’s Homes and Heads of Secure Schools are responsible for complying with the Duty.

  • Governors of Young Offender Institutions and Governors of Secure Training Centres may wish to identify a representative.

  • Individual Care and Resettlement Plans will be kept in the Secure Training Centre's filing system and access to the filing system will be regulated to ensure that confidentiality of each Trainees Individual Care and Resettlement Plan is maintained in accordance with the STC Rules.

  • Conventional crockery and cutlery will be used by Trainees in the Secure Training Centre's dining hall and returned to the main kitchen at the Secure Training Centre for washing and sterilisation immediately after use.

  • Subject to clause 20.1.3, on and from 1 November 2012 the Contractor shall provide to the Authority the Services in connection with the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act and the requirement for the Authority to manage the movement of the remand population to Secure Childen's Homes and Secure Training Centres.
