Second Mate definition

Second Mate refers to a Mate assigned to or serving on a vessel which is also manned by a Chief Mate.

  • The term “Mate/Pilot” includes Chief Mate, Second Mate and Extra Relief Mates who are also Pilots according to their license who possess the minimum license qualifications of an Inland Mate and First Class Pilot of any gross tons with pilotage.

  • A Temporary Mate may choose to cancel any scheduled vacation leave or compensatory time while working as a Second Mate.

  • WSF employees with a Mate’s license who have completed the first portion of the staggered Mate’s Orientation and Training shall be allowed to bid on Second Mate jobs, once the Mate’s seniority list has been exhausted.

  • Temporary Mates shall not be required to pay the MM&P initiation fee but shall pay dues on a monthly basis as determined by the IOMM&P for the period working as a Second Mate.

  • Any vacation leave on the IBU Forty (40) Hour Block Calendar and any vacation leave and/or compensatory time off on the IBU Single Day Calendar, as April 1, 2013, shall be honored and shall be paid at the IBU rate of pay when in an Extended Temporary Second Mate assignment for the 2013 Summer Season.

  • For bidding purposes under this MOU, their seniority date shall prevail in bidding of Second Mate jobs.

  • Second Mate, all promotions shall result in a probationary period of ninety (90) working days.

  • All Temporary Mates shall receive Second Mate’s pay when working as a Second Mate, with the exception of 7.
