Second Honors definition

Second Honors. Students who have attained a minimum of B or better average in each subject will receive second honors. The minimum requirements for graduation are 120 credits including 80 credits or 16 academic units from English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Foreign Language. Subjects required for graduation are the following: Religion 4 years English 4 years Mathematics 4 years G R A D U A T I O N Science 3 years Biology/Chemistry/Physics Social Studies 3 years: 1 year of World History; 2 years of U.S. History Foreign Language 2 years (3 years recommended) Fine Arts 1 year Computer Science 1 year Career Education 2 quarters over 2 years Phys. Ed./Health 6 semesters over 4 years Personal Finance Literacy 1 semester The Honors Program requirements include all the minimum requirements above with the exception or addition of the following: Religion 4 years: ½ year World Religions Honors, ½ year Church History Honors + 3 years of Religion Honors Social Studies 3 years: 1 year of Western Civilization Honors + 2 years of U.S. History Honors World Language 3 years of a concentration in Latin or one modern language (through intermediate level) All students must pass each section of the Iowa Tests of Educational Development (reading, writing and math) which is our equivalent of the New Jersey basic skills requirement for graduation. Senior final exam exemption exists for those seniors achieving an “A” in a subject for every marking period, including the first semester exam. Seniors who fail a course in the fourth quarter and/or the final exam for that course may fail the course for the year. Also, seniors must make up G R A D U A T I O N all fourth quarter failures before being able to participate in graduation exercises. The make-up work must be completed after exams and before graduation. Any year-end failures must be remediated before a diploma will be issued. In order to continue in an Honors course, a student in the Honors Program must maintain the course average as specified by each department in the Program of Studies.

Examples of Second Honors in a sentence

  • Second Honors (A-B Honor Roll) are given to students in grades 3-8 who have A’s and/or B’s in the major subject areas and in conduct.

  • First Honors and Second Honors are determined by Grade Point Averages at the end of each quarter and at the end of each semester.

  • First Honors 3.9 and up Second Honors 3.5 and up Students are notified of Honor Roll status via their report card.

  • First Honors if a grade point average of 3.5-4.0; Second Honors is a grade point average of 3.2-3.49.

  • Each time a student is listed on the Principal's List, the student earns: 4 points; First Honors (Maroon List): 3 points; and Second Honors (Grey List): 2 points.

  • Students with an average of 85 or above and no grade lower than 80, including physical education, will be eligible for Second Honors.

  • Students in Grades 4 to 8 are eligible for the Principal’s List if they have an average of 4.0. They are eligible for First Honors if they have an average of 3.5 and they are eligible for Second Honors if they have an average of 3.0. All Honor Students must have S or better in minor subjects and no D’s or F’s in any major subject.
