Root Pruning means removing roots from a tree to achieve a specified objective using approved practices according to ANSI A300 industry standards.

Root Pruning. Clean cuts to roots seal off quickly and prevent disease-causing problems. Prevent ragged, rough wounds from dull or improper equipment. Avoid use of bulldozer tearing roots leaving wound that will not seal readily. Use ▇▇▇▇▇ grinders to root prune along lines, as directed by Dir. of Parks. Nearby excavation can occur after root pruning. This will insure clean-cut roots. Any exposed roots that appear to be ragged or torn should be cut cleanly with a sharp pruning saw. Trees shall be mulched to help wound closure and re-growth. Do not allow exposed roots to dry out. All root pruning to be coordinated with the City’s Urban Forester. Any cost associated with Tree & Root Protection shall be considered incidental to any work item impacting the trees or roots.
