Renewing a registration means updating the information on file with the Secretary of State after the organization’s fiscal year has concluded. This is done once per year, and is due at the same time as when the Form 990 is due to the IRS (the 15th day of the fifth month after the organization’s fiscal year has concluded). A Renewal automatically advances the reporting period one year and must include a financial report. If financial information for the most recent fiscal year is not available by the renewal deadline, the organization must file online for an extension of the deadline to remain in “Good” status and avoid late fees.
