Reach, hydraulic.. "Hydraulic reach" means that portion of the river or stream extending from one significant change in the hydraulic character of the river or stream to the next significant change, usually associated with breaks in the slope of the water-surface profile, and may be caused by bridges, dams, expansion and contraction of the water flow, and changes in stream-bed slope or vegetation.
