quality factor (QF) definition

quality factor (QF) means the ability of a particular type of ionising radiation to produce damage (details of which are obtainable from the Secretary); (25)
quality factor (QF) means the linear−energy−trans- fer−dependent factor by which absorbed doses are to be mul- tiplied to obtain, for radiation protection purposes, a quantity that expresses on a common scale for all ionizing radiations the irradi- ation incurred by exposed persons. The QF for x−rays, gamma− rays, and the beta−rays is 1. The QF for alpha−rays is 20, for neu- trons it is 10.
