Protected Leave definition

Protected Leave means a period of authorized unpaid leave taken voluntarily by a Regular Member which is not required to be a contributory period of service, including:
Protected Leave means any leave of absence from work that is job-protected pursuant to Applicable Law, whether paid or unpaid.
Protected Leave means leave from work taken by an employee during the Public Health Emergency and State of Emergency declared by Governor Murphy in Executive Order No. 103 (2020) concerning the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, based on the written or electronically transmitted recommendation of a medical professional licensed in New Jersey that the employee take that time off for a specified period of time because the employee has, or is likely to have, an infectious disease that may infect others at the employee’s workplace.

Examples of Protected Leave in a sentence

  • An employee on Workers’ Compensation leave, Job Protected Leave or SDI may make an irrevocable choice after exhausting sick leave and prior to using 40 hours of vacation not to use additional vacation hours to supplement the disability benefits.

  • As described in the Employee Handbook, unpaid and unauthorized time off in excess of 40 hours per calendar year will be subject to formal discipline, up to and including separation, unless the bargaining unit member has been officially approved for a Non- Protected Leave of Absence without Pay.

  • Protected Leave Rights‌ Protected Leave including leave under the federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the California Family Rights Act (CFRA) and the California Pregnancy Disability Leave law shall be made available to eligible association members per the applicable federal and state law.
