Plankton definition

Plankton means small, suspended aquatic plants and animals which drift or swim weakly in the water column.
Plankton means phytoplankton (e.g. diatoms or dinoflagellates) and zooplankton (e.g. bivalve larvae or copepods) that live in the water column and are incapable of swimming against a current.
