Peripheral Layer definition

Peripheral Layer the elemental level. Formed on the basis of the requirements of a specific instrument subsystem, complex subsystem and "ITS Top Management Layer". The informational interaction of all layers shall be based on a telecommunication system comprised in ITS. A communication and data transmission network shall be the basis of the telecommunication system. The data transmission system shall be designed to ensure data transmission among all components, hardware facilities and subsystems, to provide access to the system’s information resources through a single commutation unit, to transmit data between system components and related systems. The ITS communication and data transmission network shall be designed to: - receive and transmit data, video and voice over fibre-optic, copper and wireless communication channels of ITS subsystems (services); - connect the peripheral equipment of ITS subsystems’ elements with information management, monitoring, storage and processing centres; - interact with other networks within a single telecommunication network; - provide access over communication channels for officers, governmental authorities, the "RHW" SC management bodies to the necessary information concerning transport services and road traffic. The ITS single telecommunication environment shall: - enable data exchange between ITS subsystem equipment and information management, processing and storage centres; - integrate separate systems and communication networks into one backbone communication network of ITS; - create a multi-service communication network (transmission of data, voice, video over a single network); - create scalability (in bandwidth, territorial coverage, number of ports); - implement access control, authentication and information protection; - support service quality; - enable step-by-step implementation of new services; - enable data exchange between zonal management centres and the integrating subsystem; - enable data exchange between local computer networks of operative management entities responsible for various modes of transport on the motorways operated in trust by the "RHW" SC and operative entities, operation of a single dispatcher service; - enable data exchange with computer networks of the "RHW" SC; - provide access for automated workstations of ITS. The basic functional characteristics of the data transmission network are the following: - compatibility of new equipment and communications protocols with existing equipment and communicatio...
