They shall become Apprentice Members of the Union upon entering into registered training agreement, (Contract of Apprenticeship), Ontario College of Trades (OCOT).
The term of apprenticeship shall be established by the MAESD and OCOT, these standards of apprenticeship in accordance with the schedule of work, processes and related instruction as outlined in #12 – Wages, shown below.
The apprentice must obtain a Statement of Membership in the College of Trades (COT) as an apprentice in the trade within one month of registering their Contract and shall be admitted to full membership only upon completion of their Apprenticeship Training (including school requirements) and successfully obtaining the Certificate of Apprenticeship Training and Certification of Qualification as issued by the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT).
Apprentices are required to write the examination for Certificate of Qualification from the OCOT within three (3) months of completion of the required training and completion of required hours.
Where permitted by the Ministry of Labour and OCOT, a delay until the end of the probation period is agreeable.
If an apprenticeship is granted the employee will receive a minimum of 900 hours towards their apprentice hours dependant on OCOT (Ontario College of Trades) regulations.
