We are also committed to the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP), secured by Go Higher West Yorkshire, which operates in the first instance until December 2018.
The network was established via HEFCE’s NCOP initiative and provides schools and colleges within Greater Merseyside with a ‘Single Point of Contact’ to signpost teachers and advisors to relevant outreach activities at each of the partner organisations.
Working within the targeted remit of the NCOP initiative, this programme focuses on pupils in Years 9-13, identified as medium/high achievers, with low HE aspiration, and domiciled within nominated postcodes (HEFCE POLAR3 and Gaps Analysis).
The Management Group will ensure the SUN NCOP staff team identify and understand current outreach provision across the region to inform NCOP spend towards new and innovative activity targeted at young people from HEFCE-acknowledged target wards with lower than expected progression rates.
It was in response to this that the partnership successfully bid for funding to be part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) in order to support the ambition to double the participation of students from disadvantaged backgrounds entering higher education by 2020, with the initial funding (£7.7 million) to December 2018.
To further aid complementarity between the work of our own institution and the NCOP, LCC is represented on the NCOP Steering Group and will be employing and hosting an NCOP member of staff who will sit within our Higher Education Development Office team.
We will align the management and delivery of this collaborative activity with that of our National Collaborative Outreach Programme consortia, monitoring the engagement of regional schools and colleges and the ages of the students we engage to ensure those outside the scope of the NCOP are not marginalised.
