Nastran definition

Nastran means the finite element analysis solver software first developed by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (“NASA”) during the 1960's to perform structural analysis for NASA projects, which was thereafter released by NASA into the public domain to allow broader use and commercial development. The term includes not only the version of the Nastran software that NASA has placed in the public domain, but also the proprietary versions of the software developed and enhanced by private parties based on the source code made available by NASA.
