Medical protocols mean means written guidelines that authorize emergency medical service providers to perform certain medical procedures prior to contacting a physician, physician assistant authorized by a physician, advanced practice registered nurse authorized by a physician or professional nurse authorized by a physician. The medical protocols shall be approved by a county medical society or the medical staff of a hospital to which the ambulance service primarily transports patients, or if neither of the above are able or available to approve the medical protocols, then the medical protocols shall be submitted to the medical advisory council for approval.

  • MEDICAL PRESCRIPTION DRUGS are prescription drugs that require administration (or the FDA approved recommendation is for administration) by a licensed healthcare provider (other than a pharmacist).
