Mechanical joint definition

Mechanical joint means a connection between pipes, fittings or pipes and fittings by means of a device, coupling, fitting or adapter where compression is applied around the center line of the pieces being joined, but which is not caulked, threaded, sol- dered, solvent cemented, brazed or welded.
Mechanical joint means a gas−tight joint obtained by joining metal parts with a positive−holding mechanical construc- tion such as flanged, screwed or flared joints, or compression fit- tings.
