Krajina definition

Krajina means frontier or borderland, and its use for parts of Croatia is partly derived from the former 'Vojna Krajina', military frontier, of the Austrian empire, though the territories only partly coincided. In the 1990s it was generally used to refer to the Serbian-populated regions of North Dalmatia, Eastern Lika, Kordun and Banija, though sometimes it was used in plural to refer to all the declared Serbian regions in Croatia.
