KASPER means the Kentucky All Schedule Prescription Electronic Reporting system established in KRS 218A.202. All APRNS who obtain prescriptive authority for controlled substances are required to register with the KASPER prescription drug medication program (PDMP). A prescription drug monitoring program is an electronic database that tracks controlled substance prescriptions in a state. PDMPs can provide health authorities timely information about prescribing and patient behaviors that contribute to the epidemic and facilitate a nimble and targeted response. Every controlled substance prescription filled in Kentucky is entered into this database with the prescriber’s name, DEA number, where the prescription was filled, along with other data.
