Interpersonal trust. Particularised means an intimate trust in people close to the trustor as distinct from generalised trust which is an abstract trust of people in general (Mayer et al., 1995). Interpersonal refers to trust people have towards others rather than towards an organisation such as an institution or a political party (Freitag & Traunmüller, 2009). Though the context of SCT mentoring is within an institution, the relationship is between two interacting individuals rather than an individual and the organisation, so that the trust referred to is particularised interpersonal trust.
