Intermediate Jacking Station (IJS) definition

Intermediate Jacking Station (IJS) means a fabricated steel cylinder fitted with hydraulic jacks spaced around the circumference, which is incorporated into the carrier pipe string between two specially fabricated pipe sections. The function of an IJS is to distribute the jacking load along the pipe string during pipe installation. The hydraulic jacks are removed at the completion of a drive and the gap between adjacent pipe sections is fully closed by pushing the pipes together with the main shaft jacks or another IJS. The steel cylinder remains as an extended sleeve or coupling. The steel cylinder must be protected from corrosion, consistent with corrosion protection used for the jacking pipe and joints.
