Incarnation definition

Incarnation literally means “in flesh.” It is the doctrine that teaches that the second person of the Godhead, God the Son, took on human flesh, thus becoming theanthropic (from theos, the Greek word for “God” and anthropos, the Greek word for “man”)/the God-man. See John 1:14.

Incarnation means ‘in the flesh’ in Latin. Christ became a man but remained God. The divine was not changed into the human or mingled with humanity. It did not become some new compound nature. The divine took the human into union with itself; he took a human soul into union with himself. This did not change the Godhead or the properties of Deity, but it did affect the manifestation of God.

Incarnation. – means God coming as Person into human life. The virgin conception of Jesus indicates that God acted in a unique way. John addresses this differently – he speaks of Christ as the eternal Word of God who is both with God (as someone distinct from the Father) and is God (being in perfect unity with the Father). It is the Son who has become a human being. He is 100% God and 100% human. Thomas recognises the risen Jesus as “my Lord and my God” (John 20:28). Paul, in Philippians 2, talks of the Son having the same essential nature as God, but deciding to humble himself in incarnation rather than to hold on to the place of “equality” with Father in heaven.
