Garble definition

Garble means to sift, to cleanse, to separate sound from the whole, which may have got mixed up with some other material. Generally, this term is applied to insurance of tobacco, but it could be applied to most cargoes, like coffee beans or grain. The “Garbling Clause” provides that the insurer will pay the cost of garbling, as such an exercise prevents further damage and reduces the claim.
