Further discussion. The Acorn project is reliant on emitters requiring the use of the T&S network. Therefore, the project must achieve memorandums of understanding with local emitters, similar to its agreement with Carbon Engineering. It is however expected that there will be demand in the region for the network, with the pipeline to Grangemouth providing an option for increasing the number of users and the diversity of emitters lowering the political risks. The project increases its options for potential network utilisers by opening the network to shipping imports from the UK and overseas. These operations for CO2 shipping could, however, face competition from other storage projects, for example, the Northern Lights Project that has similar timeframes (operational by 2025), and are also reliant on the construction of suitable transport vessels.
