Feathering definition

Feathering means light sanding of interior surfaces, performed after damaged material has been removed by scraping, to soften abrupt transitions between: bare substrate and remaining intact paint; or exposed layers of intact paint; or patching materials and the surrounding surface. Proper feathering will produce a surface which, after painting, has no edges that can be lifted with a fingernail.
Feathering must also be performed when grinding or chipping.
Feathering means the adjustment of turbine blade pitch to slow the blades down.
