Some Leave Types Roll into a Sick Bank forLimited Use: On the Effective Dates, thefollowing leave balances will transition to aSick Bank for Limited Use: Sick Leave (and Bank) Personal Leave Extended Leave Bank Extended Illness Bank Section 3.
Employees shall accrue forty-eight (48) hours per year (prorated for part-time employees) into the Extended Illness Bank (EIB) for use in the event of extended illness.
Accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) and Extended Illness Bank (EIB) for the period of temporary disability shall be used during this period, except that an employee may elect to reserve up to eighty (80) hours (prorated for part-time employees) of PTO.
The Extended Illness Bank is separate from and is not to be used as PTO.
A teacher may request to use up to thirty (30) days of accumulated sick leave for adoption, without access to the Extended Illness Sick Leave Pool to assist in preparation and legal reasons of the adoption, as well as necessary travel and initial adjustment of the child.
If an employee purchases the short-term disability insurance plan and incurs hours of leave that would qualify for both short-term disability and Extended Illness Bank paid leave, the employee may elect to use either short-term disability leave or Extended Illness Bank hours.
Thereafter, if the employee remains unable to return to work, he or she will be placed on Extended Illness Status.
Eligibility for Extended Illness Leave includes completion of employee’s probationary period.
The pool will have an open enrollment period within thirty (30) days of each contract ratification (Refer to the Memo of Understanding titled "Extended Illness Sick Leave Pool Procedures").
Benefits that will have this effect include:• Workers’ Compensation• Unemployment Insurance• Permanent Disability Policies or Programs• Extended Illness Leave Bank LeaveOther forms of benefits will not reduce the benefits you receive from the Department unless you are receiving more than your average weekly wage in total benefits.
