Exclusive general agent definition
Exclusive general agent means a person, firm, partnership, association or corporation which has been granted sole authority to act directly or indirectly as an agent for an insurer with respect to a specific portion of the insurer's business or within a specific territory and which has the authority to bind coverage on behalf of the insurer and, either separately or together with affiliates, subagents or brokers, directly or indirectly produces and underwrites in any one year an amount of gross direct written premium equal to or more than twenty-five per centum of the surplus as regards policyholders as reported in the last annual statement of the insurer.
