Examples of ESST in a sentence
Examples of abuse of ESST or sick leave include but are not limited to the following: using leave for reasons other than listed in this policy such as not actually being sick or needing to care for another person, taking leave with the intent to extend the weekend; consistently depleting the balance of accumulated leave suggesting that leave is being used in lieu of vacation time.
If the need for use of ESST is unforeseeable, the employee must inform their immediate supervisor of the need for ESST as soon as practicable.
The employee will mark eligible hours away from work in the ESST or Sick Leave line on their timesheet.
The City reserves the right to request documentation for use of ESST or sick leave when the use of ESST or sick leave is greater than three work days or as defined by the employee’s collective bargaining agreement.

If sick leave or ESST is used and workers’ compensation pays for loss of time to the employee and the employee turns the check over to the School District, the School District will credit that valued amount of sick leave or ESST back to the employee.
Sick leave or ESST shall not apply to an employee injured when working for another employer or in self-employment during off hours.
The City shall not terminate, discipline, penalize, interfere with, or otherwise retaliate or discriminate against an employee for asserting ESST rights, requesting an ESST absence, or pursuing remedies.
If an employee believes they have been retaliated against or improperly denied ESST rights under law, they can file a complaint with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry or pursue a civil action.
Abuse of ESST or Sick Leave is considered just cause for discipline.
