Early periodic screening, diagnosis, and treatment or "EPSDT" means the benefit program administered by DMAS for individuals younger than 21 years of age in accordance with the definition set forth at 42 CFR 440.40 (b) and the requirements of 42 CFR 441, Subpart B.

In addition, section 1905(r) (5) of the Social Security Act (the Act) requires that any medically necessary health care service listed at section 1905(a) of the Act be provided to an EPSDT member to correct, ameliorate, or prevent the condition from worsening or prevent the development of additional health problems even if the service is not available under the state's Medicaid plan to the rest of the Medicaid population.
