Dry pipe system definition
Dry pipe system means an automatic sprinkler system employing compressed air or other nonflammable gases in the system instead of water. When a sprinkler opens, relieving the air pressure, water pressure opens a dry pipe valve filling the system with water. The system is normally used where piping is exposed to freezing temperatures.
