Diacetyl definition

Diacetyl means the substance that is also known as 2,3-Butanedione and has CAS (Chemical Abstract Service) #431-03-8. “Diacetyl” also means a proprietary formulation containing diacetyl, e.g., diacetyl starter distillate [Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) #977019- 27-4] unless the manufacturer indicates through the accompanying material safety data sheet (MSDS) or through other written means that the material contains less than one percent diacetyl by weight.
