This group of priority pollutants consists of pesticides (such as DDT), industrial chemicals (such as polychlorinated biphenyls, PCBs) and unintentional by-products of industrial processes (such as dioxins and furans).
The term "hazardous wastes or substances" is used herein in its very broadest sense and includes, but is not limited to, petroleum based products, paints and solvents, lead, cyanide, DDT, printing inks, acids, pesticides, ammonium compounds, asbestos, PCBs and other chemical products.
The sum of the concentrations of DDT and its metabolites in whole fish should not exceed 1.0 microgram per gram (wet weight basis) for the protection of fish-consuming aquatic birds.

The sum of the concentrations of DDT and its metabolites in water should not exceed 0.003 micrograms per litre.
