Both proficiency exam scores and completed service schools are documented on military separation papers such the DD-214 military release document, the Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (AARTS), or the Sailor/Marine Corps/ACE Registry Transcript (SMART).
An official DD-214 must be on file in the Admissions and Records Office to receive this credit.
OR Recently separated veterans, who are veterans as defined in Minnesota Statutes §197.447, who have served in active military service, and who have been discharged under honorable conditions from active service, as indicated by the person’s United States Department of Defense form DD-214 or by the commissioner of veterans affairs.
Work experience must be verified on the appropriate form by: (1) previous employer; or (2) submission of Schedule C or 1099 tax returns, or written verification from tax preparer; or (3) Military DD214; or (4) other related official documents relating to the assignment.

If it becomes known that an individual's discharge is other than honorable based solely upon receipt of a Form DD214, or if a Form DD214 is not available from the NPRC, Vendor must make further investigation.
Vendor shall verify any claimed military service within the last seven (7) years by receipt of Form DD214 or other National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) records.
To apply, a member must bring their DD214 to the Retirement Office and complete an Application for Military Credit.
Any employee desiring to return to County employment must bring a copy of his/her separation papers (DD-214) or discharge to the Personnel Office within ninety (90) days following honorable separation from active military service in the original induction period and make an application for reinstatement of employment.
Form DD214 must be submitted as verification of experience and will be maintained in the employee’s personnel file.
