The Covering Physician must be a qualified Care1st provider before delivering Covered Health Care Services to the member.
COVERING PHYSICIANSIf for any reason a physician is unable to provide Covered Health Care Services to a member, the provider may secure the services of a Covering Physician.
Covering Services• PCPs are responsible for securing covering PCP services that must be contracted with Kaiser Permanente.• Covering Physician services must be with a contracted and credentialed physician who has privileges at the same Kaiser Permanente contracted hospital as the PCP.• Payment to non-participating covering PCPs must be arranged by PCP.PCP will ensure covering specialists do not bill members, except for applicable co-payments, co-insurance and deductibles for any covered services.
Patients admitted for less than forty‐eight (48) hour length of stays (e.g.6 diagnostic coronary and peripheral angiography, cardiac and peripheral7 interventional procedures, GI procedures, GYN procedures) may be seen8 daily by a Physician Assistant, CNM, or Advance Registered Nurse Practitioner9 provided the Attending or Covering Physician performed and documented an10 initial examination within the first 24 hours after admission.1112 e.
Physician shall be solely responsible for securing services of such Covering Physician.
If Physician is, for any reason, from time to time unable to provide Covered Services when and as needed, Physician may secure the services of a qualified physician (the "Covering Physician") who shall render such Covered Services otherwise required of Physician.
Provider shall ensure that the covering physician shall execute a Covering Physician Agreement (included in this Provider Manual) and that the covering physician will not, under any circumstances, bill members for covered services, except for any applicable member cost-sharing, and except as otherwise provided in the applicable Member Agreement.
Physician agrees to accept responsibility for costs associated with any deviations of Covering Physician from above requirements.
All charges incurred for services rendered pursuant to a Pre-Authorization or Referral made by a Covering Physician, other than a Referral back to PCP, shall, unless such Pre-Authorization or Referral was approved by VISTA in advance and in writing or as otherwise permitted under the applicable VISTA Coverage Plan, be borne by PCP who shall be liable for all costs, fees, charges and expenses associated with such services.
