Convolution definition

Convolution in mathematics means a function that is shifted over another function to create a third function, which is a blend of the two. As applied in convolutional neural networks, it means a filter (vector expressed as a matrix) that is multiplied by an existing vector to yield a third vector/matrix, typically meant to sharpen distinctions in an image.
